Saint Joseph’s Orthodox Congregation is a relatively new and vibrant faith-based community comprising the Malankara Orthodox Church diaspora residing in Windsor, a region that borders Ontario province of Canada and the state of Michigan of the United States. It is a prayerful community, primarily dedicated to the spiritual growth and fellowship of 16 families and the numerous students enrolled in the various institutions within Windsor. Saint Joseph’s Orthodox congregation cultivates a nurturing environment for believers, promoting spiritual connections and community bonds that uplift and support one another through faith and fellowship. Our church is committed to inclusivity, providing leadership opportunities and compassionate outreach to address the needs of our local community. fostering connections with each other and the surrounding neighborhoods. Our history is replete with milestones that reflect our unwavering commitment to the Orthodox Christian faith and the well-being of our community. Our mission is to nurture and empower individuals through Orthodox teachings, fostering profound connections in faith while actively serving our community with love and compassion. This congregation adheres to the constitutional principles of the Malankara Orthodox Church and follows all the spiritual and organizational guidance from our Metropolitan Bishop of the Diocese of Canada.

Parish History
Over the past four years, we have experienced a profound sense of divine providence in Windsor, manifested
through community worship and prayer. This journey commenced with a conversation between our Diocesan
Metropolitan, H.G. Zachariah Mar Nicholovos, and our Achen, Fr. Jerry John Mathew, during their attendance at
the DSWA priest conference in Houston in 2022. Following this meeting, Fr. Jerry John Mathew reached out to
Angel Elsa Alex, Prasad Zachariah, and Abey John. Together, we formed a cohesive unit dedicated to
coordinating and organizing a community in Windsor. Following initial planning, the inaugural monthly house prayer meeting was held on July 31, 2022, followed by two subsequent meetings. By divine providence and with the approval of the Diocesan Metropolitan, we celebrated our first Holy Qurbana on October 29, 2022, with Fr. Jerry John Mathew officiating. We were graciously welcomed by the St. Mary’s Anglican Church of Windsor to
celebrate Holy Qurbana on one Saturday per month, without any rent or cost. This blessing endured for one year, with numerous members expressing their desire to celebrate two Holy Qurbana per month. Concurrently, spiritual organizations such as Sunday School, MGOCSM, MMVS, Men’s Forum, Prayer Group, and Choir commenced operations.
During the first Annual Parish Assembly on January 29, 2023, Mr. Abey John was elected as the first Secretary
along with two treasurers, Mr. Manu Varughese and Mr. Robin Joseph. Since 2023, divine intervention enabled us
to celebrate Holy Qurbana twice annually. This congregation was officially recognized as St. Joseph’s Orthodox Congregation of Windsor on June 2024, with a Kalpana from our diocesan Metropolitan. Rev. Fr. Vineeth Kurian was appointed as the vicar of this parish, though Fr. Jerry continued to serve as our Achen. In May 2025, our Thirumeni visited us for the first time and officiated the Annual Feast, celebrating the Holy Qurbana. Dedicated in the name of Saint Joseph, the Just, this congregation has already achieved significant progress in the spiritual and social spheres of the Windsor community. Today, this community stands as a spiritual refuge for approximately 70 members, including college students and families. The congregation continues to attract numerous families to unite in prayer. Windsor is poised to become a developing society, situated adjacent to the renowned Motor Cities of both the United States and Canada, and has witnessed a steady increase in the number of members participating in its activities.
